Free Comic Book Day 2011 Comic Reviews

Hi Thunderscorpion here with my review of Free Comic Book Day 2011. This year I was able to get all, but one of the comics I was looking for at the local comic shops in my area the one comic I could not find was the Intrepid EscapeGoat/Stuff of legend FCBD issue.  I had to later order it online that is why this post wasnt made sooner. For free comic book day  I went to a comic shop called 4 Colored Fantasies where I met Michael Allen Nelson the Writer of the 28 Days Later comics and had him sign some issues for me. It was a fun day, anyways here is my reviews for my favorite FCBD comics this year.

Baltimore/Criminal Macabre FCBD 2011:

Lord Baltimore is back and at his finest in this FCBD issue the story begins at a deserted looking village in Tulingart Germany where villagers huddled together in the attic of a house in fear of what horrors  lie in wait in the dark.  Then a boy named Rolf arrives calling for his friend Max to come out and join him.  Despite the danger of vampires, he follows and they both leave together and Rolf show’s Max that there is a stranger in the village hunting vampires.  The stranger is none other than Lord Baltimore and after Rolf finishes showing Max, he leads him under a bridge where he springs a  horrible trap by turning in to a monster, but luckily Lord Baltimore steps in and slays the creature before he could do any harm, but then gigantic spiders appear and launch an attack, so Baltimore exterminates them before seeing the young boy Max safely back home and then disappearing into the night.  Note: I also read The Criminal Macabre side of the issue, but I didnt care for it I give this issue (8 out of 10).

Mouse Guard/ Dark Crystal FCBD 2011:

The issue begins in a forge where a young mouse Kenzie watches his father crafting a fine sword before stopping to tell his son a bed time story, a story about a town surrounded by predators and the clever mouse that would free them. The story goes; the mouse ventured to the three predators that prayed upon the mouse’s of the town, a Hawk, a Snake and a Crab and defeated them using wit and trickery serving as a cautionary tall for young Kenzie. There is also a short story in this issue called Season of the Dapper Men, it was to girlish for my taste, and then there is an interesting article on a Jim Henson story called, A tale of Sand that’s going to be turned into a comic. It sounded good I might have to check into it when it comes out.  At the back of the issue there is a Dark Crystal comic, it was ok but The Mouse Guard part was definetly the best thing about this issue. I give this issue (8 out of 10).

The Intrepid Escape Goat/The Stuff of Legend FCBD 2011:

I wanted to get this issue exclusively because of The Stuff of Legend preview, it features I was not really interested in the Intrepid EscapeGoat comic.  I read it, but it was kinda kidish not the comic for me,but what I did enjoy immensely was The Stuff of Legend preview, it starts off with a little recap of story and then there’s an awesome look at the new Jester’s Tale Stuff of Legend Comic with an epic sea battle displaying  the Jester fighting his enemy’s with style.  It would be cool if some how they brought back the colonel that would be an interesting twist to the plot at least that’s what I think, I give this issue (7 out of 10).
